VersaTiles

Have you heard of Versa Tiles?  I had not until a year ago when my nephew was talking about his teacher using them in their classroom.  I had to check them out!  What I discovered was amazing!  Not only are VersaTiles an interactive way to review content, they are self checking!  Students have a list of 12 questions with corresponding answers.  They move the number tiles to their matching answers, close the lid, flip the case, and check to see if their patterns match! If they match, then they have successfully completed the activity.  If they do not match, then students must self-assess to determine where they went wrong and correct their mistake to ensure a matching pattern.

There are 2 ways you can use these activities in your classroom.

1. Whole Class - Students would each have their own answer case to complete the question/answer process.  Questions and answer options are projected onto the board and when all questions have been completed, students will reveal their patterns all together!

2. Small Group/Individual - I personally use this the most in my classroom.  I love to do rotations and these activities make a great rotations, because they are self-checking!  I just make sure there are enough activity pages at the rotation and students complete them on their own.

You can ordered them from Amazon or directly from Hand2Mind.  Both places have several options for resources and activity pages.

While, you can find a lot of great activities, I have found that there are times I have not been able to find exactly what I needed.  So, I created my own templates and pattern lists, so that I can create exactly what I want.

While, I use these in a math classroom, these activities can be used in any classroom setting.  These would be great for vocabulary review or fill in the blanks. You could also review map skills by putting a map on the paper, label locations 1-12 and then put the answers in the A-L boxes.  However you use them, they definitely engage students and make them feel like they are playing a game while they are learning.
